Potential Grave Relocation - Rhodes Cemetery in Wendell

 Shared to our Facebook page by Elizabeth Godwin via the News and Observer listing: Potential Grave Relocation In the matter of the proposed removal and reinterment of approximately 2 graves at the Rhodes Cemetery, 3130 Buck Stage Trail, Wendell, Wake County, NC (PIN 1784796727). The cemetery contains 1 inscribed grave marker for Lenard L. Rhodes (1831-1862) and one potential uninscribed grave marker. The request for removal and reinterment is anticipated to be considered by the Wendell Town Board of Commissioners in fall 2025. Grave Relocation Alert - Near Apex NC - Jones/Barker/Collins

More information on the two men with named graves follows. News and Observer Legal Notices, 17July2025 POTENTIAL GRAVE RELOCATION In the matter of the proposed removal and reinterment of approximately 16 graves at the  Jones-Barker-Collins  Cemetery located south of the intersection of U.S. Highway 1 and NC Highway 540 (PIN 0730865572) Apex, Wake County, NC. The cemetery contains two inscribed gravemarkers for  B.Q. Barker  (1846-1925) and  B. H. Collins  (1848-1912). There are also 9 uninscribed fieldstones and 5 possible grave depressions within the cemetery. The removal and reinterment request is anticipated to go before the Apex Town Council in late summer or early fall 2025. Grave Relocation Notice - Land formerly in Wake County located on Carpenter Pond Rd.

I found this in searching for a reliable way to check for cemeteries in peril. If you are also interested in checking for this information, the site  www.ncnotices.com  allows searches for legal notices including grave relocation notices. You can search the state or by county. This is useful for me as I do not have a N&O subscription but still need access to this info.  It is a little after publish date of this notice but worth a try to locate connected family. The land that the 17 unknown persons are buried on was formerly in Oak Grove Twp, Wake County and is now located in Durham. If you have Grady or possibly Emory family in that area that want to have more information, contact the email in the notice . Neither I, nor WCGS have any say in this matter. This is an alert to find family who may have questions or should at least know where the graves were relocated.
