The New WCGS Website Is Live

We’re pleased to announce the launch of the newly updated Wake County Genealogical Society website! You’ll still find us at the same familiar address: www.wakecogen.org.

The biggest improvement is one you may notice right away: the website now adapts more easily to the device you’re using, whether you’re visiting from a computer, tablet, or phone. While the site has a fresh look and some updated organization, all the WCGS information and resources you rely on are still there:

  • Upcoming WCGS meetings, programs, and educational events
  • Access to past issues of the journal and newsletter
  • Wake County Cemetery Survey
  • Wake County Genealogy Watch
  • Society news and information
  • Members-only resources, including recordings and handouts from past meetings and programs

Jump right in!

Our updated website also reflects the continuing growth of WCGS as an educational resource for genealogists. While preserving and sharing Wake County history remains an important part of who we are, our programs and resources reach well beyond Wake County. Through speakers, workshops, online programs, and educational resources, we help genealogists develop stronger research skills, explore new methods and resources, and become better family historians — wherever their research may take them.

In other words, it’s still your WCGS website — just easier to use wherever you happen to be researching. We invite you to visit www.wakecogen.org, take a spin around, and explore the new site. Members, remember that you’ll need to reset your password the first time you log in to access certain member only resources.

Whether your ancestors lived in Wake County or halfway around the world, we hope WCGS will be a place where you can learn, connect, and grow as a genealogist. Send thoughts or questions to CarlaStancil@gmail.com. Enjoy the new site!

Note:  The changes to the website affected the link trail located at the bottom of every article of the Wake Genealogy Watch format. These have been corrected back through January 1, 2026. If you find yourself at a page that has not been updated yet, click the home button and use the link trail at the bottom of the most current article.
