Wakecogen Book Exchange - June 20 Summary

Our membership chairperson,  Carol Kimball Stahl provided this summary of last Saturday's Book Exchange:

"As y'all know, the Book Exchange was held at Laurel Hills Park on Saturday, June 20. As you might surmise, there were likely some who would have come but for being one of the 150,00 people who attended the Canes' parade! Regardless, we did see some good results.

Vouchers were given when someone brought books to be placed on the tables for sale. Each book generated a voucher. At the end of the day, 13 vouchers had been used. That use meant that 13 books found new homes! In addition to the voucher use, people could buy books for $5 or win the silent auction bid." Many bought books outright. Between purchases and simple donations we generated enough funds to cover a speaker engagement or in-person activity.

"Many familiar and new faces attended. Among those were Cini Gage, Cyndi & Steve Deal, Harriet Jenkins, Kathy Ruse, Jennie Gunther, Lou Dawson, Marcus Boyd, Linda Hames, John & Ann Myhre, and Barbara & Jack McGeachy."

We had several non-member visitors show up to peruse our collection. One lucky visitor is now the happy owner of a large stack of NGS journals!

"After we cleared the room for the next group, a bunch of us met at First Watch on Glenwood to enjoyed lunch. Breaking bread together is always wonderful! Many thanks to Barbara and her team for arranging this wonderful day!"

Update: 24 of the remaining books were accepted for donation to the Library of North Carolina. The other 24 will be donated to the FamilySearch Center in Apex.

    So sorry to have missed this event. Books followed by First Watch -- what a great combo Glad y'all made enough to support an activity or future speaker -- sounds like a success. I hope you'll consider doing this again. I have many genealogy books for NC and beyond on my shelves and some just aren't being used ...
